At first, Pat’s Project aimed to give veterans a new sense of passion and purpose. We ended up discovering something far more profound.
We found a trust that is hard to find in a brotherhood. We found a sense of healing. It was a safe place to speak about things that other men would bach at, being able to talk about your demons with the confidence knowing that there is no judgement. You can talk about the things that scare you, things we’ve done, things we’ve seen, things that we can not talk to our families about. We are the protectors, the defenders, we are born and built to carry burdens that men are meant to handle, but it is nice to be able to share our vulnerabilities of the weight of being a man, a veteran, a husband, or a father.
We start with a drive to the rocky mountains where the guys get to know each other and introductions. Night 1 we stayed at a cabin at 10,000 feet to acclimate to the elevation. The scenery is breathtaking. We study the Colorado Big Game brochure and I walked through the CPW application process and regualtions. We all got a good night’s rest. Day 2 we headed up the mountain with a 2 hour backpacking trek through the collegiate peaks of Colorado. We then set up camp and took it all in. From there the experience is your own. There are no expectations, you can join us in learning game tracks, game trails, scat, optics, spotting scope, species, and scouting. Pats project was developed to provide a passion and a purpose to create a sense of healing, what transpired was allowing the mountains to provide a indivdualized healing experience combined with brotherhood and trust.
